KUCHING, Oct 14: Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi has proposed upgrading and extending the Balingian-Sungai Anak road to connect with the Pan Borneo Highway, providing an alternative route for heavy vehicles travelling to Bintulu and reducing damage to coastal roads.
Speaking during the Sarawak Budget 2027 debate at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) Complex today, Abdul Yakub urged the government to give serious attention to the road’s maintenance, upgrading and continued construction.
He said the Balingian-Sungai Anak route could serve as an alternative link between Balingian and Bintulu, particularly for heavy vehicles and those serving the industrial sector.
The proposal aims to reduce heavy vehicles’ reliance on coastal roads, where their loads contribute to road damage and may compromise the safety of other road users. — DayakDaily
