ASAJAYA, 26 Sept: Students at Asajaya National High School (SMK) were seen to become increasingly aware of the importance of education when about 170 students from the school went on to university last year.

Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the achievement demonstrates that the local community is increasingly seeing education as an important medium for improving the quality of life of individuals and families.

He said that the achievements of the Asajaya students are very proud even though the school does not have such good infrastructure.

"Every year, over the past few years, Asajaya High School has been able to produce students who are capable of entering public universities in Malaysia.

"Last year alone, if I'm not mistaken, about 170 students from that school went to university in a single year. So as you can see, the community here has begun to see the importance of lessons in improving the lives of families and individuals here", he said.

He said this in his speech at the 100th Anniversary Welcome Meeting, Chung Hua Sambir National Type School on Friday night.

He said the achievements show that efforts to spread awareness of the importance of science and education among the society have had an impact on younger generations in the region.

He said that although in terms of infrastructure, Asajaya School may not be at such a good level, the school is still able to consistently record good academic achievement.

He said the success of students in continuing their studies to university also reflects the seriousness of Asajaya society in ensuring that younger generations get an education capable of opening up broader opportunities for their future.

According to him, the awareness of the importance of education that has been cultivated since previous generations can now be seen through changes and social developments in the area. - TVS
