SARIKEI, 7 Oct: Sare residents will enjoy a shorter journey to Sarikei city centre through the construction of a new 2.7 kilometre road connecting Sare Road with Sentebu, Kinyau Hill.

Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land and Environment Administration, Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the project worth about RM17 million was implemented under the allocation of Delta Rajang Development Agency (RADDA) and is expected to be completed within 12 months.

According to him, out of the total cost of the project, about RM1.4 million was allocated for compensation payments to 20 landowners involved in the construction of the line.

"The construction of this road will shorten the travel time of residents from Sare to Sarikei from about 30 minutes to about 10 minutes, as well as provide another more efficient alternative route", he told media after the groundbreaking ceremony of the project here today.

Len Talif said that the new road also adds value to the local population by providing more direct access to Sarikei Hospital, thus helping avoid traffic congestion in the city.

According to him, at this time the residents of Sare who are going to the city centre have to go through Jalan Sare, Jalan Meruton/Merudu and Jalan Repok, while the journey to the hospital also involves passage through Jalan Kampung Seberang.

"This network of connections is very important because it not only facilitates the movement of people, but also strengthens the connection between rural areas and downtown Sarikei as well as major public facilities", he said.

In related developments, Len Talif said the government also plans to develop a road connecting Kerubong with Adin Sare National School (SK) for about seven kilometers through RADDA allocation.

He said that the project is expected to be tendered in the near future and when implemented will complete the road connectivity network in Sarikei, thereby improving connectivity from south and north. - TVS
