ASAJAYA, Sept 26:Cong Hua Sambir National Type School (SJK) celebrates its 100th anniversary to prove the important role of Chinese school education institutions in creating an educated society and contributing to community development regardless of ethnic background.

The Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts of Sarawak, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that the establishment of the school in 1926 reflected previous generations' efforts to foster the importance of education, especially among rural communities.

He said that the contribution of Chinese schools to education and community development cannot be ignored, even its history proves that the institution also provides education to communities from diverse racial backgrounds.

"I was so excited to see the dance performance performed by Chung Hua Sambir Junior School students just now. Although they may look like Chinese, among them are Malay, Bumiputera and Chinese who perform together. This is something we want to see in the future", he said.

He said so in his speech at the 100th Anniversary Welcome Meeting, Chung Hua Sambir National Type School on Friday night.

Abdul Karim said the school, established in 1926, has come a long way in providing education to local communities, including when connectivity facilities were still limited.

According to him, the school also plays an important role in spreading the importance of education among Asajaya and Sambir communities, including the Malay and Iban generations.

He said that education received from previous generations helped improve the quality of life of individuals and families, thus contributing to local community development.

Meanwhile, Abdul Karim announced a donation of RM120,000, equivalent to 10 per cent of the cost of RM1.2 million needed for construction of a rooftop basketball court and several other sports facilities in the school under the Small Outdoor Projects (MRP) allocation.

He said the remaining funding needs could be worked through the RTP allocation in collaboration with school and community management to ensure that the facility can be completed within the prescribed time. - TVS
