KUCHING, Sept. 26: The pharmaceutical field continues to be highlighted as one of the potential educational and career options for younger generations through the Open Day of Pharmacy at Cyberjaya Kuching College.
The programme not only provides opportunities for students and parents to learn about the pharmaceutical field, but also opens up a space for direct interaction with industry players as well as relevant agencies present throughout the programme.
Senior Director, Group Regional Acquisition, Cyberjaya University (UoC), Kalimuthu Thumbasamy, said the Open Day event aims to introduce the pharmacy program to students more closely, as well as give an overview of career opportunities available after graduation.
According to him, the presence of pharmaceutical companies and agencies on the programme gives added value to students as they have a better understanding of the needs and opportunities in the employment sector.
"On this Open Day, we want students and parents to know that we have opened a pharmacy program, in addition to giving them the opportunity to interact with related companies and agencies.
"This is important because students not only get exposure about their studies, but also see for themselves the career opportunities that can be missed after graduation", he said at Cyberjaya Kuching College Pharmacy Open Day and Day, here today.
Kalimuthu said that the pharmaceutical sector is among those programmes which are seen to have strategic importance in providing a workforce to meet the needs of the health sector in future.
He said the college currently offers pharmacy-related programs with an overall enrollment of about 40 to 50 students.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, perfected the programme, thus demonstrating his commitment to expanding educational exposure and career opportunities in healthcare for young people.
The Open Day also provides students with direct access to information on education pathways, learning environment and career prospects in pharmacy.
Cyberjaya Kuching College is currently offering a Diploma in Pharmacy, which is a three-year programme covering pharmaceutical science knowledge, pharmacy practice as well as practical training in the healthcare environment.
The programme also provides career paths such as pharmacy assistant or pharmacy technician, hospital pharmacy support, pharmaceutical sales representative and pharmacy operations related fields.
With the involvement of industry in such programmes, students have an opportunity to understand more closely the relationship between education, practical skills and the real needs of the pharmaceutical sector.
