KUCHING: Farm road maintenance projects will continue to be implemented to help smallholders in Sarawak’s agro-commodity sector transport their agricultural produce.
Plantation and Commodities Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said that the ministry received two applications in 2026 for farm road repairs in the Selangau parliamentary constituency, namely Jalan Sekuau 1 and Jalan Sekuau 2 in Ulu Oya, Selangau, Sarawak.
She added that the applications involve oil palm smallholders with a total planted area of 23.8 hectares.
“Both proposed project locations involve Native Customary Rights (NCR) land, which requires special approval and coordination with the relevant state authorities.
“Farm roads are an important facility that enables smallholders to transport their agricultural produce,” she said this in response to Selangau Member of Parliament, Edwin Banta’s questions at Dewan Rakyat today.
Earlier, she said that from 2023 to September 2026, a total of 50 farm road repair and maintenance projects covering 116 kilometres were approved in Sarawak, with a total allocation of RM15.72 million.
“These projects have benefited 886 smallholders involved in oil palm, pepper, cocoa and rubber cultivation,” she said.
