KUCHING, Sept. 22: The second phase of Samarahan Boulevard development project with a ceiling cost of RM70 million will open for tender this year.

The Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts of Sarawak, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) is the implementing agency for the project.

According to him, the development of Samarahan Boulevard first phase worth RM25 million is now going well despite some delays in terms of implementation progress.

He is confident that the first phase project can be completed, while the total cost of construction of Samarahan Boulevard is estimated to be RM127 million.

"In the next two to three years, maybe three years I think we're going to see a boulevard beautiful enough for us to be doing stand-alone programs.

"As we have informed the media, people in previous Kuching, Padang Central are getting cluttered every time events are held there all over Kuching Jem so we plan to bring this to our own Boulevard something that we model as in Putrajaya", he said during a press conference after the meeting of the Steering Committee of the Regional Integrated Development Agency (IRSDA) Samarahan Bill 2/2026 in Kuching on Tuesday.

In another development, Karim informed that the issue of the first phase Tambirat Village Riverfront Project is likely to be brought to court or resolved through negotiations between contractors and the Department of Irrigation and Sewerage (DID) Sarawak as the project implementation monitoring agency.

He stressed that efforts will be made to save the project because of its importance to the community and as an infrastructure which also supports the organisation of major events such as water sports regatta.

Additionally, the second phase development of Kampung Tambirat River Bank Project will also be implemented covering the entire village with project length estimated up to one kilometer.

"A little less than a kilometer and we want it to be something that the people of Tambirat Village are very proud of and thank goodness the Honorable Lord has agreed for the project which phase two is implemented.

"It will be tendered or it will be determined who will run the project in the future and the cost of the dam can also be about RM100 million for sure", he explained. -TVS
