KUCHING: Harassment of an elderly couple allegedly over their son’s debts has escalated, with their home splashed with paint early today following an earlier firecracker attack.
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau’s Chief, Milton Foo said the couple lodged a second complaint after the latest incident occurred at about 3:30 am.
An investigating officer attended the scene to collect evidence.
The attack came just days after the bureau brought the earlier incident to public attention during a press conference on October 3.
According to the bureau, the harassment was allegedly linked to debts involving the couple’s son, who no longer resides at the address.
The repeated incidents have left the elderly couple facing significant psychological distress and fearing for their safety, although no one was physically injured.
Foo condemned the attacks and urged police to take the matter seriously, investigate swiftly and bring those responsible to justice.
He stressed that while debts should be repaid, recovery must follow lawful channels and must never involve intimidation, harassment or damage to property.
The bureau also cautioned the public against borrowing from illegal moneylenders, warning that such loans could expose their families to harassment and put their safety at risk.
