KUCHING (April 3): Hope Place Kuching is providing special milk supplements to two brothers suffering from severe health complications, including organ damage and long-term medical conditions.
Mohamad Syaaid Mohamad Ali Hanaffiah, 34, who has been diagnosed with two diseases, is now wheelchair-bound and in a weakened condition.
His elder brother Syafiq is recovering from injuries sustained in a 2023 accident that resulted in third-degree burns and internal organ damage.
In a statement following a visit to the family, the non-governmental organisation said the request for assistance was made by their 59-year-old mother Julia ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, particularly for Syaaid who first suffered breakthrough seizures in 2019.
He was later diagnosed with internal and external haemorrhoids, while his condition has continued to deteriorate over the years, leaving him unable to walk since 2024.
“Physically, Syaaid is very weak and barely moves,” Hope Place said, adding that his mother reported that he is prone to bruising and experiences sudden vomiting and weight loss.
“Doctors have recommended special milk supplements as he is only able to take small amounts of solid food.”
Julia, who works as a cook, is expected to retire next year, while her daughter Nur Hidayah, a part-time administrative clerk and single mother, helps support the family financially.
Hope Place said Syafiq is still recovering slowly and continues to experience trauma and nightmares following the accident.
Syaaid currently receives RM500 monthly aid from the Social Welfare Department.
Hope Place welcomes all donations. Contributions can be made via its Maybank account 511289001160 or through the S Pay Global QR code on its Facebook page. Receipts will be issued upon request.
