KUALA LUMPUR: The National Sports Day (HSN) 2026 celebrations, scheduled to take place in Bukit Jalil tomorrow, have been postponed due to haze.
The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) said in a statement today that it will announce a new date later, subject to air quality returning to safe levels for outdoor activities.
The ministry said it made the decision on the advice of, and with the agreement of, Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari, while expressing gratitude for His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia’s concern over the haze affecting the country.
It said the postponement is a precautionary step to prevent potential health risks to participants, organisers and members of the public.
“Following detailed discussions with the relevant government agencies, KBS has assessed the implications of holding a large-scale event under the current circumstances.
“The well-being of the public remains the ministry’s priority, and the public health and safety of everyone involved have been fully considered,” the statement said.
However, the ministry said celebrations at the state level and elsewhere will depend on local conditions and decisions by the respective authorities.
According to the ministry, celebrations in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, Kedah, Penang, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka have been postponed, while those in Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Perlis, Perak, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan will proceed as planned.
The ministry also urged Malaysians to limit outdoor activities for now and follow health advice and guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and the Department of Environment.
