KUCHING, Sept. 27: Hui Sing Park now showcases a new concept of public space by combining recreation, learning and community interaction facilities in one area.

The South Kuching City Council (MBKS) initiative involves the development of a community centre and library worth RM1.9 million.

South Kuching Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the approach is aimed at making the park a space that can be used by multiple generations.

"We want them to come to the park. Kids can hear stories, learn and read here. Newspapers and magazines will be available for grandparents. When they exercise, children can be in the library", he said at the Hui Sing Park Community Center and Library Board of Visitors today.

According to Wee, the approach also gives locals an opportunity to present their views on the design and concept of the project before the open tender process is implemented.

He said that the involvement of residents is essential to ensure that the facilities provided truly meet the needs of local communities.

Meanwhile, MBKS also partnered with Little Bean Storyland to promote storytelling and reading activities at the center. -TVS
