MERADONG (April 3): The festive spirit of Hari Raya Aidilfitri in Meradong was further enlivened by a Hari Raya gathering organised by the Sarikei Community Development Department (Kemas).
Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said the celebration is not only significant for Muslims but also serves as a meaningful platform for people of all backgrounds to share in the joy and foster a deeper understanding of each other’s cultures through practices such as open houses.
“This practice not only strengthens inter-ethnic relations but also nurtures mutual respect and forgiveness, further reinforcing unity and harmony in the country,” he said according to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit report at the event on Wednesday.
He added that cooperation and unity are key elements in building a strong organisation, particularly in efforts to develop rural communities and cultivate goodwill among residents, government agencies and leaders.
During the event, Ding announced a Minor Rural Project grant amounting to RM2,000 for the Kemas Sungai Baron Resource Centre.
He also revealed plans to apply for a Rural Transformation Project in 2027 to upgrade the facility, including electrical wiring works, installation of air-conditioning units and repairs to its leaking roof.
