BINTULU (April 1): Some 66ha of land is still affected by the bushfire at Kuala Tatau as the firefighting operation entered its 10th day on Wednesday.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said monitoring operations confirmed the overall situation, including sections of plantation land and adjacent forest, was stable with no significant flare-ups.
Firefighters from the Tatau fire station arrived at the scene at around 9.40am and carried out equipment preparations before conducting ground monitoring together with plantation personnel.
The inspection found that the bushfire was largely contained.
“Despite the improved conditions, a total of 300ha had been affected since the fire first broke out on March 23. Of this, 234ha have been extinguished, while 66ha remain unextinguished,” Bomba said.
Additional personnel from the Bintulu fire station also assisted with the operation, particularly in peat soil areas.
A total of 14 personnel, including five Civil Defence Force personnel, were involved in today’s operation.
