Kuching Marathon 2026 canceled after a dust storm

KUCHING, 25 September: Marathon 2026 scheduled to take place on Sunday, 27 September, canceled due to dust conditions affecting Kuching and surrounding areas.

Kuching Marathon Association (KMA) in a statement announced the decision was made after taking into account the health and safety aspects of all parties involved.

According to the KMA, organizers have been continuously monitoring readings of the Air Pollution Index (IPU) as well as several other environmental indicators since the dust started earlier this month.

The organisers also got the views of the relevant authorities and medical advisors before a cancellation decision was made.

"The safety and health of the participants, crew, volunteers, officers, medical teams as well as civilians should be given priority", according to the statement.

In the meantime, all registered participants can still get the final medal and the final dress.

Pick-up can begin tomorrow, September 26, at the Plaza Independence Mall.

The schedule and further instructions on recruitment will be announced via KMA's official social media platform today.

KMA also apologized for the disappointment caused by the cancellation, and appreciated the understanding, patience and support of all parties.

"The safety and well-being of the community remains a priority for organizers", the statement reiterated. -TVS
