SERIAN, 15 Oct: A man in Serian lost RM28,750 after being believed to be the victim of an investment scam advertised via Facebook platform.

Serian Regional Police Chief Superintendent Freddy Bian Stanislaus Bian said an initial investigation found the victim interested in investment ads using a company's name before continuing business via Telegram app.

"The victim then made several payment transactions to two different bank accounts after promising a good return on investment in a short period of time.

"However, after the money was transferred, the victim was asked to make an additional payment of RM58,412 for reasons of error when accessing the given link", he said in a statement today.

He said the victim who realized there were suspicious elements then showed up making a police report.

"The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code, while further investigation is ongoing to identify the parties involved and investigate financial transactions.

"The public is advised not to be easily influenced by investment offers that promise high returns in a short period of time and make confirmation through official channels before handing over money", he said. -TVS
