KUCHING, Sept. 22: South Kuching City Council (MBKS) organised the Tanglung Festival celebrations at three locations Kenyalang Traffic Garden, Hui Sing Garden and Sahabat Park to bring the celebration closer to local communities this year.
South Kuching Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the approach allows families, gold citizens, youth and children to enjoy the celebration together without having to gather in one location.
"At the Kenyalang Traffic Garden, a reception will take place on September 24 and 25, from 6.30pm to 10.30pm, with various activities including food stalls, stage performances, clown shows, balloon gifts, free lunches and sandwiches as well as electric go-kart activities for children.
"In Hui Sing Garden, a reception on September 25, from 6pm to 9pm, features free lunar snacks and pastries, games, snack puzzles, wall of hope as well as live performances", he said at the Welcome Party press conference today.
Meanwhile, he said, "MOON-IN 2.0" at Sahabat Park took place from 17 to 27 September, from 4 pm to 11 pm, also held was Project Shori, an immersive themed experience on the second floor of Chagee building on a chosen date.
"The reception at the three locations is not only aimed at celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival, but also encouraging communities to use parks and public spaces as places to gather and bond", he said.
He also emphasized the importance of introducing traditions to younger generations so that they understand the meaning of celebration and not only recognize it through social media.
He said that although the Tanglung Festival has its roots in Chinese culture, the celebration in South Kuching is open to all communities, consistent with Kuching's identity as a multi-racial city.
He invited people to bring family and friends together to celebrate at all three locations.
"The moon may be the same wherever we are, but what makes the celebration meaningful is that people are by our side", he said. - TVS
