MIRI, 22 Sept: Nominations for Miri City Mayor's Award 2026 are now open to individuals, organizations, associations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), community groups, educational institutions and the private sector who contribute to the development and wellbeing of the city.
Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang said the awards were created to recognise contributions from various parties that have made a positive impact on Miri, including in areas of community welfare, environmental sustainability, culture and heritage, education, innovation, tourism and business.
"Building a city is not the responsibility of local authorities alone. Miri's progress was the result of a collaborative effort by many who contributed time, ideas, skills and resources in various ways.
"This award gives us an opportunity to recognize these contributions and highlight their stories to the community", he said at the Miri City Mayor's Award 2026 press conference, here today.
In addition, there are many individuals and organizations in Miri who continually contribute without expecting recognition, including those active in volunteering, helping communities, protecting the environment and empowering children and youth.
A total of 10 categories were contested at the 2026 edition, including Miri Green and Sustainable Awards; Community Wellbeing, Health and Social Impact Award; Tourism, Hospitality and City Promotion Award; as well as Business, Entrepreneurship and Economic Contribution Award.
Other categories are the Innovation, Digital and Smart City Award; Media, Communications and Digital Influence Award; Education, Youth and Talent Development Award; Culture, Arts, Heritage and Sports Award; Grand Miri City Mayor's Special Award and Posthumous Recognition.
The awards are also open to the people of Sarawak, Malaysian expatriates and international candidates, subject to the designated nomination process.
"A good nomination should explain what has been implemented, when and where it happened, the specific role of the candidate, who benefits as well as the impact or results achieved.
"Supporting evidence such as photos, certificates, official reports, statistics, media coverage and program materials are also encouraged to allow the contributions to be evaluated and validated", he said.
The nominations are open from 22 September and will close on 22 October 2026, at 5 pm.
The public is encouraged to submit an early application by ensuring that all information and supporting documents are complete before being sent. - TVS
