KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) is stepping up monitoring of illegal dumping at a private property following complaints over waste being indiscriminately discarded at the site.

MPKS conducted a site inspection with the landowner and Samarahan Divisional Health Office to assess the situation on Tuesday (Oct. 6) and discuss measures to address the problem.

Following the inspection and discussions, the landowner agreed to take several measures, including closing off an access lane leading to the site, installing warning signs prohibiting illegal dumping, and carrying out cleaning and waste removal works.

MPKS confirmed it will also conduct periodic monitoring to ensure the agreed measures are implemented properly within the stipulated timeframe.

The council urged members of the public to refrain from dumping waste illegally or at unauthorised locations, warning that such practices could affect public cleanliness, health and the quality of the surrounding environment.

It said cooperation from all parties was essential to ensure illegal dumping issues were addressed effectively and the environment within the MPKS administrative area remained clean and well maintained.

Also present during the site visit were MPKS’ Deputy Municipal Chairman, Daily Joseph; Permanent Committee Chairman for Public Health and Environment, Aziz Mohamad; alongside fellow councillors and MPKS officers.
