LAWAS, Sept. 27: Cultural diversity, backgrounds and religious holdings should be a force for the people of Sarawak to remain safe, prosperous and harmonious.
Deputy Prime Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said that racial and religious harmony will continue to make Sarawak 'our home' for all nations and descendants.
"Generations have changed, our cities have grown and the lives of communities have also changed. But the spirit of preserving culture and strengthening community ties remains to this day.
"The moon cake celebration has a deep history and meaning for Chinese society. It brings family values, communion, gratitude and hope.
"But in Sarawak and especially Lawas, something is not just celebrated by one tribe. We also attend, visit each other and share the joy together", he said.
The text of his speech was read by the Member of Parliament, Dato Henry Sum Agong who represented him at the Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Celebration of the Lunar Eclipse in Lawas Arena last night.
The Central Committee urges that any differences of opinion and views on anything involving racial and religious sensitivity should not be used as an element to disrupt the unity of the people.
On the contrary, he said, the fertility and tolerance that have been practiced since the last generation should be handled to keep Sarawak prosperous and prosperous. -TVS
