BELAGA, Sept. 22: Ministry of Public Works (KKR) plans to build six intersecting corridors along Bintulu-Bakun Federal Road to improve the smoothness and safety of road users.
Meanwhile, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that the proposal has been planned to be submitted for consideration of future budget allocations.
"Now we have planned six locations of the cutting corridor, namely six locations from Bintulu to here and six locations from here to Bintulu", he said speaking at the Ministry of Works with Home Bakah Community in Uma Baha Apau Koyan, Sungai Asap here, today.
According to Nanta, the proposal takes into account the narrow, hilly and often overrun by heavy vehicles of Bintulu-Bakun Road.
He said that slowly moving heavy vehicles can cause traffic to become congested, thereby affecting the smoothness of travel.
He said that setting up a cutting corridor in the appropriate location could help to stimulate traffic along the route.
Nanta said KKR hopes that the proposal will get approval for allocation through the upcoming Budget.
He also hoped that the cooperation of the Government of Sarawak could help strengthen the planning of the project at the federal level.
According to him, the safety and comfort aspects of consumers continue to be among the considerations in the road improvement plans.
He said KKR will continue to work with JKR Sarawak to ensure that the need for improvement of road infrastructure in the area can be addressed.
