LUNDU, 27 September: Proposals for construction of a settlement centre and marina around the Rambungan Bridge area are expected to increase economic opportunities as well as tourism attraction in Sampadi Zone.
Tanjong Datu Member of the National Assembly (ADUN), Azizul Annuar Adenan said that the facility could be a complementary project to the development of Rambungan Bridge.
He said the proposal was important to ensure that infrastructure development also provides economic boost to local communities.
"It is also my hope to represent the community in Sampadi Zone so that a settlement centre and marina can be built around the bridge area as a mixed project which can increase economic opportunities and tourism attraction in this area", he said.
He said this while addressing the 2026 Batang Kayan Lundu Regatta Suspension Meeting here, today.
Azizul said the development in Lundu should be implemented comprehensively involving government, community, private sector, entrepreneurs and youth.
He said planned development should also provide space for younger generations to engage directly in the fields of entrepreneurship, technology and digital economy.
In the meantime, he described Rambungan Bridge as one of the important projects that can benefit the communities in the area.
According to him, the project which was previously cancelled by the federal government is now being continued by the Sarawak government and scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2027. -TVS
