ADVERTISE HERE
SIBU, Sept 27: About 400 Igan residents residing in Sibu and surrounding areas gathered at the 3rd edition of Pedun Likew Igen Dome here yesterday.
The program was a gathering place for the large Igan family who now settled and sought their livelihood in Sibu and surrounding areas.
The meeting not only strengthened the ties of friendship amongst Igan residents in Perantauan, but also served as a platform to ensure that family ties and ties with villages continue to be maintained.
Igan MP Ahmad Johnie Zawawi said that distance and the hustle and bustle of building a life in the suburbs should not be an obstacle for Igan residents to continue recognizing and appreciating their origins.
"Although we live far from Igan, family ties and love for the country must continue to be maintained", he said during the inauguration of the event.
According to him, such a programme gives the people of Igan space to meet, exchange news and re-establish relationships that may be separated due to their distance and busy lives.
He said that the continuity of the programme should be maintained so that it continues to be a hub for Igan people in Sibu and surrounding areas.
"It also serves as a platform to help younger generations get to know their relatives, family background and place of origin.
"I hope that this spirit of solidarity will continue to be strengthened so that the people of Igan, wherever they are, remain connected and do not forget their roots and hometown", he said. - TVS
