KUCHING, Oct. 7: Three years have passed since October 7, 2023, when Israel's attack on Palestine brought great devastation to the people who only want to defend their rights and dignity.

During that period, over 74,000 Palestinians were reportedly killed, while millions more lost their homes and faced the destruction of basic infrastructure.

Added to this is the worsening humanitarian crisis with restrictions and restrictions on access to critical supplies such as medical equipment, food and fuel continuing to affect the lives of Gazans.

How many negotiations and ceasefire agreements have been made, each one also condemned by the Israeli Zionist regime.

The reality is that the situation on the ground is very different from the feelings that are being expressed on social media.

According to International Law Expert of the National University of Malaysia (UKM), Prof. Madya Dr Salawati Mat Basir, people around the world clearly expressed solidarity with Palestine, in addition to celebrating the aesthetic values and cultural richness of the Palestinian people.

However, this solidarity is seen to have not yet translated into actions that actually affect the earth.

"So, I don't know, like social media might be possible, but I want action in that field. It's all right.

"They are still exposed to the disaster and death that Israel has killed without cause", he said.

Additionally, the awareness raised in the virtual world is simply seen as insufficient, especially when Palestinian-related content is allegedly at risk of being blocked or restricted by social media platforms.

"The truth is, when we try to raise the profile on social media, there's going to be some restrictions. This is the reality of the moment, even as if consumers are oblivious to (genocide) happening on Palestine", he said.

He acknowledged that the actions of several international artists such as Macklemore to voice support for Palestine were among the efforts capable of bringing the issue to a wider audience.

"To those who are still enthusiastic, continue especially those in the West. However, the opposition is growing as Israel spends money to keep Palestine as invisible as possible to the world", he explained. - TVS
