Two convenience stores in Kuching are suspected of treason.

KUCHING, Sept. 21: Two incidents of treason with fire occurred at two 24-hour convenience stores on Green Road and the King Centre area here last night.

Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed the two incidents occurred between 7:05 pm and 8:30 pm.

"In the first incident in the King Centre area, the perpetrators used poison and caused no damage.

"However, the second incident on Green Road was more serious when two suspects came to the premises before throwing objects into the store", he said in a statement today.

According to him, the action caused two explosions before a fire broke out inside the premises.

"The fire was later extinguished by the bombers. No further information on the total losses reported so far", he said.

Cases are investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code which provides for a prison sentence of up to 20 years and can also be fined if convicted.

Alexson said the search and identification of both suspects is underway.
