SIBU (April 4): A man now living in Perth, is appealing to the public for help in reconnecting with a woman who cared for his family during his childhood in Sarawak.

Diwaker Rao, the son of Dr V M B Rao, said that he was seeking information about the whereabouts of Siu Hing, who had lived with and looked after his family when they were based in the state.

It is believed that Siu Hing is from Sibu and may now be in her late 70s.

“Our family lived mostly in Sibu and later in Miri before migrating to Australia.

“My father was a medical officer at Lau King Howe Hospital in Sibu, while my mother was a teacher,” Diwaker shared on Facebook, with a photo of Siu Hing attached in the post.

“The young lady in the picture, Siu Hing, stayed and looked after us.

“I would very much like to get in touch with her or anybody who knows her,” he said.

Diwaker previously studied at Sacred Heart School in Sibu, and is now working as a data analyst in Perth.

When contacted, Diwaker said that he was unsure exactly when his family first met Siu Hing, but recalled that they left Sarawak in December 1974.

“I believe Siu Hing was with us from at least 1964. She also followed us to other places where my father worked, including Sri Aman and Miri,” he said.

Diwaker can be contacted via +61 400 316 958 (WhatsApp).
