KUCHING, 12 Oct: Sarawak Government will continue to give 50 percent discount rent for stores and business premises owned by Local Authorities (PBT) as well as state legislatures in 2027 involving a total discount of RM10.8 million.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the initiative helped ease the burden on small traders and market outlet entrepreneurs especially in the face of rising living costs and business expenses.

"I am pleased to announce that this important initiative will continue until 2027, with a total discount of RM10.8 million.

"This step has helped thousands of small traders and market outlets to reduce costs as well as maintain their revenue sources in the face of rising living costs and business expenses", he said.

He said this when presenting the Sarawak Budget 2027 at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Conference, today.

According to him, the Government of Sarawak is building a solid foundation for enabling Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as well as startups to grow, innovate and compete in higher value sectors.

The effort is also aimed at ensuring that Sarawak entrepreneurs from rural youth to emerging enterprises have access to capital, skills and institutional support needed to drive the state's economic transformation.

On 1 April, Brother Johari announced a 50 percent discount to PBT and state legislators' stalls and business premises as relief in the wake of the West Asian conflict.

The initiative announced at the 2026 special aid media conference involves RM8.1 million allocation and benefits small traders across Sarawak.-TVS
