KUCHING, 12 Oct: Sarawak's liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports rose 22.8 percent to 16.44 million tonnes in the first seven months of 2026, thus strengthening its position as one of the state's top export commodities.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state's export performance also showed an increase for some other major commodities, reflecting growth in terms of volume and value of exports.

According to him, crude petroleum exports increased by 1.5 percent to 2.72 million tonnes, while the value of commodity exports increased by 13.7 percent over the period.

"The increase in the value of crude oil exports was supported by encouraging global oil prices, with an average Brent crude price of around US$91 per barrel over the period", he said.

He said this while presenting the Sarawak Budget 2027 at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Conference, here today.

Brother Johari explained that crude palm oil (CPO) exports also recorded an increase of 17.4 per cent to 2.43 million tonnes.

The achievements thus strengthened Sarawak's position as one of the main contributors to Malaysia's commodity exports.

According to Abang Johari, the positive development of major commodity exports reflects the resilience of Sarawak's natural resource-based economy in the face of global market uncertainty.
