KUCHING, Oct 12: Sarawak Media Group (SMG) receives RM60 million allocation from the Government of Sarawak to strengthen media development and digital economy in the region.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that large investments have also been made to develop state-of-the-art studio infrastructure and digital broadcast platforms, thus placing Sarawak as a leading regional broadcasting and creative content hub.

"A total of RM70 million is allocated next year to complete Sarawak Media Group (TVS) office and studio facilities for international broadcasting centres, in addition to RM60 million for the Sarawak Media Network Initiative under the digital economy framework", he said while presenting Sarawak Budget 2027 at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Conference today.

Meanwhile, he said RM500,000 was also allocated to start Phase 1 of Sarawak Art Gallery to empower local visual art activists.

In the meantime, the Sarawak Creative Economic Council will be established as the main body to promote and develop creative industries in the region, thus harnessing the potential of cultural and digital assets.

"It covers cultural heritage, media and digital entertainment including e-sports.

"This collaborative effort will use incentive financing mechanisms and fiscal support to ensure our creative ecosystem empowers local entrepreneurs, content creators and art activists, thus placing Sarawak as a dynamic creative hub", he said.
