KUCHING: Low kicks to wear him down, high kicks to keep him guessing and body kicks whenever the opening came – Elias “EZ” Ghazali kept Edwin working from bell to bell.
The Sarawak fighter was pushed all the way by his Indonesian opponent in the UXR Showdown Chapter 2 super main event, with both trading freely and neither able to find an early finish.
Elias continued to vary his kicks as the fight wore on, changing levels and forcing Edwin to stay alert while the Indonesian kept answering back.
There was no shortcut to this one. It went the full distance.
And when the judges made the call, all three had Elias ahead.
The unanimous decision handed him the super main event championship belt at Stadium SUKPA in Kuantan, Pahang, on Saturday (Oct 10).
No knockout needed – Elias did his work over the distance and left Kuantan with the bell.
