KUCHING, 7 Oct: Sarawak continues to strengthen its commitment to environmental sustainability by making the agenda one of the key milestones in state development through the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030).

Deputy Prime Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said that environmental sustainability is part of the state's construction efforts and should be implemented comprehensively, including through clear policies and legislation.

According to him, not only does Sarawak have the Sarawak 2030 Sustainability Blue Plan, but it is also implementing sustainability efforts at local authority level to ensure that the agenda is translated into action.

"We have amended all the necessary laws. We have our own environmental order. The federal government has also reduced the power to Sarawak, so we can implement carbon levies and so on. So we're very serious about environmental sustainability", he said.

He said this in his speech at the 2026 Green and Geopark Excellence Awards (GAGA) held at a leading hotel in Kuching, on Tuesday.

According to Dr Sim, Sarawak's commitment to environmental sustainability is also seen through efforts to strengthen policies and planning at the local authority level, in line with state development aspirations by 2030.

He also stressed that the sustainability agenda should be institutionalized and should not be seen as a mere task, but rather as part of values and practices in administration.

He said that continued efforts are essential to ensure environmental sustainability can be maintained for the benefit of future generations, as well as allowing Sarawak to continue moving towards more sustainable development-TVS.
