KUCHING: Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) is strengthening its role in Malaysia’s digital economy through strategic business partnerships, collaborations with local creative industries and gaming-related events that generate commercial opportunities.
MOONTON Games Publishing Lead, Business Development and Campus Marketing Jeffery Chan said the popular mobile game’s expanding ecosystem had created opportunities for local businesses across various sectors, including telecommunications, automotive and everyday services.
He said the collaborations enabled businesses to engage with MLBB’s growing gaming community while expanding their commercial reach through partnerships within the digital entertainment industry.
“These collaborations create opportunities for local businesses to be part of the growing MLBB ecosystem while contributing to Malaysia’s creative and digital economy,” he told Bernama during the MLBB 10th Anniversary Carnival here recently.
Jeffery said MOONTON Games had also strengthened its collaboration with Malaysia’s creative industry through partnerships involving local intellectual properties, including homegrown animated character Ejen Ali, which made its MLBB debut at the M7 World Championship in Indonesia in January.
He said such collaborations provided a platform to showcase Malaysian creative content to international audiences while strengthening ties between the gaming and entertainment industries.
Beyond commercial partnerships, Jeffery said MLBB also celebrated Malaysian culture through initiatives such as its annual Golden Month campaigns during Ramadan and Hari Raya.
He said the Guru Juara MOONTON Masterclass was another initiative aimed at helping educators promote structured and responsible gaming among students.
Meanwhile, MOONTON Games Head of MLBB Publishing, Malaysia, Graws Wen said the economic opportunities generated by MLBB extended beyond digital platforms through the organisation of esports tournaments and offline events.
He said these activities also benefited the broader commercial ecosystem by creating opportunities for businesses and professionals involved in event management, production and entertainment.
He cited the MLBB 10th Anniversary Carnival in Kuching as an example of how gaming-related events could bring together various industries and businesses on a single platform.
Meanwhile, former professional MLBB player and popular content creator Muhammad Faris Zakaria, better known as Soloz, concurred, saying the growth of Malaysia’s esports industry had also attracted foreign investment, particularly following the introduction of the franchise system in the MLBB Professional League Malaysia (MPL MY).
He said the involvement of foreign investors and commercial sponsors reflected the industry’s growing contribution to the country’s digital economy.
“When MPL introduced the franchise system, several investors from other countries began investing in Malaysia. For me, when that investment comes into Malaysia, it helps drive the ecosystem,” he said.
Soloz said the economic opportunities generated by esports were not limited to professional players, as tournaments also created employment opportunities for event organisers, production crews and other professionals working behind the scenes.
“Compared with the past, the esports ecosystem today is much more interesting, with many opportunities available. Even if someone cannot become a professional player, they can still work behind the scenes and earn an income,” he added. – BERNAMA
