KUCHING, Sept. 29: Kuching City is gaining recognition in the international Healthy Cities agenda following the recognition of North Kuching City Council (DBKU) as a city of health experts by Alliance for Healthy Cities (AFHC), early September.
The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Prof Dr Asri Said, said the recognition reflected Kuching's development experience in integrating aspects of health, community, sustainability and urban development.
He representing UNIMAS Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit said the recognition also put Kuching in an important position in healthy city movement globally.
"It's not just as a city learning from other cities, but increasingly being able to share its own experiences, innovation and teaching with cities around the world", he said.
He said this while addressing the inaugural World Congress and Exhibition on Design and Health 2026 at UNIFOR Complex, here today.
According to him, Sarawak has its own unique location as it brings together the diversity of society, indigenous heritage, biodiversity and urban and rural environments.
"As a university located in the heart of Borneo, we believe that science must move in both directions, namely we learn from the world and we also share what we have learned from our community, environment and our own journey", he said.
He said the conference should be more than just a conference, it should be a platform to inspire ideas, cooperation and action.
He said cooperation between various sectors, sectors and countries is essential to create a healthier, inclusive and resilient environment.
