MIRI, Oct 11: More than 12,000 rice chips were distributed to those in need this year through the annual charity program of the Some Shak Lung Kung Miri Association.

Sarawak Transport Minister, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said that the programme which has been running for over 10 years is a testament to the continuing commitment of the association in helping communities regardless of background.

"This initiative reflects the spirit of solidarity in Sarawak, where religious communities play a role in helping those in need.

"For example, although the association is based on Chinese communities, the aid provided does not discriminate against religion or culture. They help all those in need", he said while attending the Goodwill Rice Distribution Program at the Activity Hall, Some Shak Lung Kung Miri God Shop, here today.

He who is also a Member of the National Assembly (ADUN) Senadin said that such kindness efforts should be continued as not only helps to alleviate the burden on recipients, but also encourages communities to continue caring for each other.

He said that the harmony of multi-racial and religious society is among the strengths Sarawak must continue to maintain in order to keep the state safe and stable.

"We may come from different communities, but we are all Sarawak children. We need to respect each other and work together to ensure that the state continues to thrive, be safe and prosperous", he added.

The Government of Sarawak said it will continue to pay attention to the welfare of the people through various initiatives, including education assistance to ensure more Sarawak children have opportunities to continue their education and build a better future.

In addition, the development of the state must be accompanied by efforts to protect the welfare of the people so that its benefits can be enjoyed by all sections of society.

"I hope this kind of cooperation between governments, associations and local communities can continue to ensure that those in need continue to receive their due attention and support", he said. - TVS
