THE state government is allocating RM64 million for early childhood education and school assistance next year, alongside further investment in English proficiency and STEM learning.
Under the proposed State Budget 2027, the funding includes RM29 million for SeDidik, RM14 million in annual special grants for registered early childhood centres and RM4 million for kindergarten and childcare fee subsidies.
The subsidies will benefit children from households earning RM7,000 or less per month, helping to ease the cost of early education for eligible families.
The budget also provides RM4 million for the School Uniform Assistance Programme, which offers RM200 vouchers to eligible students to purchase uniforms, shoes and school bags.
Another RM10 million is allocated to continue the Free School Bus Programme in Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri, providing transportation for children from underprivileged households.

The programme also incorporates smart bus tracking systems to improve safety and efficiency while helping reduce traffic congestion around schools.
Beyond financial assistance, Sarawak is increasing its focus on English proficiency and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) competencies to prepare students for a changing economy.
The state has earmarked RM1 million to continue implementing the Dual Language Programme (DLP), alongside RM6 million for the Ujian Penilaian Dual Language Programme Sarawak (UP-DLPS) for Year Six pupils.
The statewide assessment covers English, Science and Mathematics, with its assessment instruments reviewed and validated by Cambridge University Press and Assessment.
Its results will help the government identify learning gaps and introduce targeted interventions, particularly in English proficiency and STEM subjects.
The budget places education at the centre of Sarawak’s human capital development strategy, with an emphasis on creating pathways from schooling and training to employment, entrepreneurship and meaningful careers.
The state government said education must provide opportunities for every Sarawakian, regardless of background or geographical location, while equipping young people to contribute to a modern and competitive economy.
The combined allocations for SeDidik, early childhood centre grants, fee subsidies, school uniform assistance, free school buses, DLP and UP-DLPS total RM68 million.
The focus is on widening access to education while strengthening the skills Sarawak needs for its future workforce.
