KUALA LUMPUR, 8 Oct: Approximately 14,000 volunteers are needed to help win the 2027 SEA Games which will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Johor and Penang from 18 to 29 September next year.
Chief Executive Officer of the Secretariat of Malaysia SEA Sports Organizers (MASOC) and ASEAN 2027 Games Datuk Abdul Rashid Yaakub said that the total includes about 5,000 to 8,000 SEA Sports Volunteers needed for Kuala Lumpur cluster.
"In Penang, an estimated 2,000 volunteers may be needed and in Sarawak perhaps 5,000 to 6,000. The total is likely to reach about 14,000 people for the four SEA Sports clusters of 2027", he said in an exclusive interview with Bernama here today.
He also said his side needed the services of 5,000 volunteers to help succeed in ASEAN Para Games (APG) 2027 which is taking place in Kuala Lumpur from 17 to 23 October.
"APG volunteers may be more special and skilled at handling these disabled athletes", he said.
He said that the application to volunteer for both sports themes will be open on December 5, to all ages including foreign energy.
"MASOC aims to recruit volunteers from abroad, especially international students who are able to communicate in the languages of the participating countries", he said.
Meanwhile, Abdul Rashid said about 1,000 applications for pre-registration of volunteers from the two sports teams have been received so far, through government-sponsored programs including our previous MADANI Program.
Abdul Rashid said the volunteers not only received clothing, but also considered accommodation, food and transport assistance throughout the course.
"Our country is very well known for its sporting activities. If you look at the recent Gulf Air Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit, many fans are excited.
"With the ability of Malaysians to get involved in this sport, I am sure many will want to participate. So I invite everyone to volunteer for the SEA Games 2027 and ASEAN Games 2027", he said.
