MIRI (April 6): Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) has welcomed the Sarawak government’s move to introduce targeted measures to cushion the economic impact of escalating Middle East tensions.
Its secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting expressed appreciation for the foresight of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) administration in undertaking the initiative.
Ting, who is also the Piasau assemblyman, commended the Premier’s proactive leadership in exploring new measures to help entrepreneurs and the public navigate rising living costs and global economic volatility.
“We have full confidence in Premier’s proactive approach to economic management, ensuring Sarawak remains resilient against external pressure,” he said.
He added that the proposed measures are expected to provide much-needed relief for local businesses and households.
“These upcoming steps are crucial in stabilising our economy and ensuring our people remain resilient in the face of international uncertainties,” he said in a statement following a mobile service programme conducted by his service centre here yesterday.
On the mobile service initiative, Ting said it reflects the branch’s continuous efforts to engage with communities and provide face-to-face assistance to the public.
Among the services offered were assistance for the Kenyalang Gold Card, Senior Citizen Health Benefit Scheme, Sarawak Digital ID registration, and matters related to the Spay Sarawak platform.
“We hope that through this mobile approach, our service team can stay closer to the people, making it easier for those in need to reach us, raise their concerns and receive timely assistance,” he said, noting that the programme is held every Sunday at different locations.
