KUCHING, Sept. 28: Sarawak should put greater emphasis on technology mastery as part of efforts to build a more developed state.
Deputy Prime Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the small population size should not be a barrier if the state is able to leverage technology to strengthen development.
"To do something for Sarawak, what matters is technology, not population. Technology, that's what I want to highlight to everyone", he said at the opening ceremony of Zeekr Kuching Pop-up Store here today.
According to Dr Sim, the world's rapid technological development, including advances in high-tech mobility sector should be an impetus for Sarawak to observe, study and build its own capabilities to ensure that the state is not lagging behind in global technological change.
"Every time we see the development of electric vehicles, we have to ask how a country can develop so quickly in this field.
"As part of the construction of Sarawak, we also need to learn from that. If not, how are we going to move forward?" he said.
The emphasis on technology and innovation is in line with the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which sets out the aspiration to make Sarawak a data-driven and innovative advanced society, while focusing on economic prosperity, social inclusion and environmental sustainability. - TVS
