KUALA LUMPUR, 13 Oct: Miri residents now have a more strategic air travel alternative as the new service continues to Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (LTSAAS), Subang, scheduled to start operations on 1 December.
Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Chiew Choon Man said the route would facilitate travel for frequent visitors on business, education, health and family affairs.
He said the location of the airport is closer to Kuala Lumpur city centre and surrounding areas which can provide additional facilities especially in terms of access and land travel planning.
"I welcome this announcement as the extension of the route is not only a matter of flight options but also an effort to improve Miri's connectivity with the country's major economic hub", he said in a statement today.
Chiew who is also the MP Miri said he had previously held a meeting with Batik Air airline to discuss the potential opening of the route and welcomed the positive developments now heading towards implementation stage.
He said improved air route connectivity could potentially benefit the business and tourism sectors as well as facilitate people's movement between Miri and Klang Valley.
"I believe that better air transport is essential for a city like Miri which has great potential to continue growing. More aviation options mean more facilities for the people and opportunities to boost local economic activity", he said. -TVS
