DUN Sarawak: Phase 2 windows scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2027

KUCHING, 13 Oct: The first phase of the Phase 2 National Digital Line (JENDELA) initiative in Sarawak is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2027.

Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunications, Datuk Liwan Lagang said that it includes efforts to improve telecommunication coverage in Simunjan area.

According to him, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is investigating suitable sites for implementation of the initiative in Sarawak including in Simunjan's DUN area.

"The study aims to identify suitable solutions for improving and expanding telecommunications coverage especially in areas that are still experiencing Internet disruption and lack telecommunication coverage", he said.

He said this in response to a question by Member of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Simunjan, Awla Dris at the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Conference today.

Awla requested clarification on the status of approval of Phase 2 JENDELA for DUN Simunjan area in particular from Kampung Sageng Hulu to Kampung Tebuan, as well as possible acceleration of its implementation due to frequent Internet disruption and lack of telecommunications coverage in some areas.
