KOTA BHARU, 7 Oct: Police arrested a man after he allegedly stabbed his wife who was also a nurse six times in an incident at Padang Lepai Village, Kadok, here on Monday.

ACP Bharu Kota Regional Police Chief Mohd Azmir Damiri said the 47-year-old suspect was detained for seven days from yesterday to 12 October.

"The suspect was arrested for aiding and abetting an investigation under Section 326 of the Penal Code", he told Bernama today.

Meanwhile, the victim's mother, Zubaidah Abdullah, 78, said her son who suffered six stab wounds including those in his liver, intestines and neck was rushed to Queen King Zainab II Hospital for treatment.

Zubaidah said her six-year-old son who was married to the suspect is now in divorce proceedings and had previously filed a police report on death threats.

Recounting the moments of that night, she initially thought her son-in-law was just beating his son up during a fight before realizing the incident had become serious after seeing blood spilling on the floor.

"I tried to pull the back of her dress to prevent the suspect from continuing to hurt my son, but without success.

"We don't really know the suspect is outside the kitchen because it's a little dark. I also didn't expect him to make such a surprise attack", he said, who also received two stitches on his fingers from injuries sustained in the incident.

Zubaidah said his 12-year-old grandson later left the house for help, while the suspect escaped before surrendering at Nilam Puri Police Headquarters. - TVS
