MUKAH, Oct 13: Attempts by a pickup to cut off a sport utility vehicle (SUV) turned tragic when the four-wheel drive vehicle collided with a tanker truck on Mukah-Balingian Road, at about 4pm yesterday.

The accident involving the three vehicles however did not cause injuries to the driver of the pickup and tank truck.

Mukah Regional Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Muhamad Rizal Alias said the initial investigation found the pickup was on its way from Balingian to Mukah before attempting to cut off an SUV in front of it.

He said while on the opposite route, the pickup driver noticed the presence of a tank truck from the opposite direction at a distance too close to fail to return to the original route.

The situation caused the pickup to collide with the front of the tank truck before it was unloaded and break into the SUV.

As a result of the accident, the pickup suffered damage to the front, side and rear, while the SUV and tank truck each suffered damage to the front.

According to him, police received a report of the incident at 10:17 p.m. and the case was investigated under Rule 6, Road Traffic Rules 1959.

Police also tracked down the driver of two other vehicles involved but have not yet appeared to make a police report, as well as searching for independent witnesses and dashcam cameras.

The public with information about the incident is requested to contact an investigative officer or attend a nearby police station to assist in the investigation.
